What The Wedding Dress Expert Says…
We chatted to Ellie, the award-winning founder of iconic bridal brand Ellie Sanderson and all-round wedding dress guru to get her take on the trend. Here, she shares her top 10 off the shoulder wedding dresses and why she loves this versatile style so much.
1. Davis by KYHA Bride
“I’m obsessed with this modern take on the timeless ballgown style. The structured bodice provides figure-flattering support, while the off the shoulder sleeves feel effortlessly cool. I adore the luminous glow of this super-luxe duchess satin, and that thigh-high skirt split is everything.”

2. Foxglove by Suzanne Neville
“If you love an off the shoulder style but are worried about going braless, you need a Suzanne Neville wedding dress in your life. Suzanne’s corsets are a cult favourite for a reason, providing next-level support and wear-all-day comfort. Foxglove feels cool, minimalist and sexy.”

3. Baccara by Eva Lendel
“Make a statement in this truly unique off the shoulder gown. The lace sleeves and underskirt offer a delicate touch of romance, while the lace-up back and trailing skirt work a vintage feel. It’s a great style if you prefer a little coverage for your arms.”

4. Nevada Corset by KYHA Bride
“I love the freedom a two-piece bridal gown offers. This corset from Aussie brand KYHA Bride just feels so fresh and modern, with the perfect off the shoulder cut and sculptural draping. Pair with the Opal skirt for high octane glamour, or the chiffon Bassett skirt for a more relaxed vibe.”

The full lace sleeves offer some extra coverage, as well as a delicate vintage feel. Also, can we take a moment for that v-shaped Basque waistline? Gorgeous!”

Will I suit an off the shoulder wedding dress?
“Absolutely! Off the shoulder wedding dresses are so flattering on all kinds of bodies and the versatility of this dress style means any bride-to-be can find the right cut to make them feel incredible. It’s a great style to show off your upper body in a subtly sexy way, and there’s plenty of dresses with long sleeves if you prefer to keep your arms covered. I love that this cut can be paired with any kind of skirt, from figure-hugging fit and flare skirts to dreamy, tulle, A-line beauties.”
What bra should I wear with an off the shoulder wedding dress?
“So many brides ask me this question. Wedding dresses are very different to your typical off the shoulder summer or occasion dress. Many of the off the shoulder dresses we offer at Ellie Sanderson provide built-in support; if not, our incredible seamstresses can often fit cups into your dress to make you feel secure and supported. When you come in for your fittings and/or alterations we can talk you through the best options – and I guarantee we’ll make sure you feel 100% confident in your dress.”

What hairstyle looks best with an off the shoulder wedding dress?
“Do you know what? There are no rules when it comes to wedding hair. I know it’s quite traditional for brides to wear their hair in an updo to show off the neckline on an off the shoulder wedding dress, but honestly, you just need to go with a hairstyle that makes you feel like the best version of you. I think loose waves look effortlessly cool and glamorous when paired with an off the shoulder gown.”
