Having a well fitted dress can make the difference between feeling like the beautiful elegant bride you are on your wedding day, or spending the day pulling up your corset and worrying about tripping over your hem after a few glasses of bubbly! Professional fittings by an experienced seamstress are a must in our book, no matter how much you plan on spending on your gown get it fitted properly, as lets be honest – none of us are a perfect size 12!
At Ellie Sanderson we offer fittings in house, our lovely seamstresses with many years experience between them, are excellent at putting any last minute wobbles to rest. The fittings process starts about 8 weeks before your wedding, when you’ll get to put on your beautiful gown for the first time. You’ll be pinned in place and we’ll make sure you are happy with any changes we’re about to make. At this point you’ll need your underwear and shoes.
Good underwear can help create the perfect silhouette; we don’t want any VPL’s on the big day. Go for nude seam free undies, the shorty types usually work best as there can be no riding up when dancing – and we expect all our brides to have a proper boogie on the day!
There are many options on bras and this will most likely depend on what type of dress you are wearing. Designers such as Suzanne Neville and Sassi Holford create fantastic corsets, they do all the work for you, and feel fabulous and secure all day long, without the need for strapless bras which are never as good as you want them to be. If your dress is backless, bust cups sewn into the bodice are a great option, or we have some great low back bustiers in our boutiques which can do just the trick.
Your second fitting will be about 3-4 weeks before the wedding, you’ll check the work from the first and have your hem taken up. Then we’ll steam and prep your dress and have it waiting for you to collect when your ready…..now that is definitely the most exciting bit!
It’s vital to leave enough time for fittings, especially during busy periods, so if possible start looking at least a year before your wedding.
