Sarah + Adam | 20.07.2018
Today we’re talking to Sarah, our picture perfect sweetheart Ellie Sanderson real life Bride. Sarah and Adam had a rustic wedding theme to compliment their venue which was in the middle of the Chiltern woodland, Sarah wore a beautifully simple Charlie Brear gown but made it just that extra bit special with some finishing touches. Read on to be inspired by their beautiful day…
Team ES | Tell us about your proposal?
Sarah | It was a complete surprise! I had been away with work in Florence and arrived back home early evening. Opening the front door and seeing dinner on the hob and a bunch of flowers, I just thought Adam was being super lovely after a hard weeks’ work. We had dinner and went upstairs to watch some TV, I sat down and turned around to see Adam on one knee with a ring box as he asked the big question ‘do you want to get married?’ Next thing the champagne was being popped and I was phoning everyone in my phonebook to tell them the good news!
Team ES | Did you pick up any tips during the planning stage?
Sarah | I loved the wedding planning – perhaps because my line of work is in events – but it was so satisfying starting with a blank canvas and watching the wedding come together. Take your time and enjoy it, there’s no need to stress! Plan the skeleton of the wedding first ie the suppliers and then sort the decorations around it.
Team ES | What was your wedding dress experience like?
Sarah | Ellie Sanderson was the first shop that I went to and I was so nervous. I was made to feel completely at ease and there was no pressure. Once I had tried my first dress, all nerves faded and it turned to be such a fun and exciting experience!
Team ES | How did you choose the ‘THE ONE’?
Sarah | I was first dressed in the Charlie Brear dress with no accessories and it felt too simple and underwhelming. Then, I was brought the Augusta Jones lace top, a pearl Charlie Brear belt and a veil which brought the whole dress to life. I just knew then it was the one! I went away to another couple of shops, but compared every dress to the one I fell in love with in Ellie Sanderson so went back the following weekend to pay the deposit.
Team ES | What did you love most about your dress?
Sarah | I love the way it made me feel. The dress itself is fairly simple, but I felt amazing and loved the confidence that it gave me on the big day.
Team ES | Very pretty flowers – how did you choose?
Sarah | I am the first to admit that I am not a flower pro! After a big Pinterest search for inspiration, I sent our florist some photos and she made them come to life on the day. Kathryn from Stemtation was brilliant!
Team ES | Did you follow a theme for your wedding?
Sarah | Not strictly, but with our venue being an old barn in the middle of the Chiltern woodland, it made sense to have ‘rustic’ decorations.
Team ES | Did you walk down the aisle to a particular song?
Sarah | Yes – I walked down the aisle to ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ by Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole (the Hawaiian version). It was an unusual choice, but we both love the song and had it played by a string trio.
Team ES | What was your first dance song and did you practice your dance or wing it?
Sarah | Our first dance was ‘Tenerife Sea’ by Ed Sheeran, we completely winged it!
Team ES | Most memorable moment of the day?
Sarah | Just taking a step back and seeing everyone with a big smile on their face enjoying the day.
Team ES | Did you follow the something old, new, borrowed, blue tradition?
Sarah | I did; for my something old I had my earrings, my something new was my dress, something borrowed was a bracelet from my mum and my something blue was my garter.
Team ES | Tips for brides to be, what one thing would you recommend?
Sarah | Just relax on the day, enjoy it and try to take everything in as it goes by like a flash!
Team ES | What are you both up to now, did you go on honeymoon?
Sarah | We went on a mini-moon to York straight after the wedding for a few nights, and have just been on honeymoon in Hawaii!
