Emily + Jonathan  | 10.07.18

Today we’re talking to Emily, our beautiful Ellie Sanderson real life Bride. Emily and Jonathan had a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony followed by a gorgeous reception at Hampton Court House. Wearing Fiorella by Suzanne Neville Emily shone – even more than her Bridesmaids in their rose gold sequinned numbers! Read on to be inspired by their day…

Team ES | Tell us about your proposal?

Emily | Jonny set an “adventure” challenge for me when I got home. First there were some maths problems that created an anagram of my teddy. Second, a riddle that led to my enormous collection of Disney (yes…I know I should grow up) and, inside, a key. The key led to the spare room where Jonny was standing with my engagement ring (which was made with four diamonds from his grandma’s ring and a sapphire in the middle)!

Team ES | Did you pick up any tips during the planning stage?

Emily | Details are really important for everyone to feel included. We had a Jewish wedding (I converted) but my family are not Jewish so of course we wanted to make sure everyone felt special. We found photos of all our parents, grandparents and great grandparents on their wedding days and framed them. Pinterest was a godsend but trust your own style and taste (they still haven’t forgiven us for the cheese cake!)

Team ES | What was your wedding dress experience like?

Emily | Amazing! My dress was the second one I tried on. Ellie’s team were so supportive and really know what they are doing to fit your body and image.

Team ES | How did you choose the ‘THE ONE’?

Emily It sounds cheesy but it was all about feel – I just KNEW. I needed a modest dress for synagogue so the sleeves were perfect.

Team ES | What did you love most about your dress?

Emily | THE MATERIAL. It sounds silly but you can really tell the quality of a dress in the material. Suzanne Neville’s dresses all have the most gorgeous fabrics!

Team ES | How did you decide on your flowers?

Emily | We were actually recommended Daisy at another wedding – we were told she had done plenty of weddings so could do a great Chuppah and she was amazing. We wanted the flowers to be classy and natural so went for whites, greens and a tiny addition of very pale pink.

Team ES | Where did you get your wedding inspiration from?

Emily | Brides magazine helped a lot and also Pinterest helped a lot. If we are honest – other weddings also help too! My friends had some amazing ideas that we took and added to our day.
Team ES | Did you follow a certain theme for your wedding?

Emily | Not as such, but the main colours were gold, dark green and ivory. We wanted the colours to be classy and in-keeping with our venues, West London Synagogue and Hampton Court House.

Team ES | Did you walk down the aisle to a particular song?

Emily | To fit in with the idea of mixed, inclusive families we chose John Legend’s “All of Me” to a traditional jewish song “Lecha Dodi”

Team ES | What about your first dance song and did you practice your dance or completely wing it?

Emily | Totally winged it! Very embarrassing because neither of us are dancers but the parents helped out. Our first dance song was Frank Sinatra’s All of Me.

Team ES | Most memorable moment of the day?

Emily | Most memorable moment was when our Rabbi, and good friend, turned his mic off and spoke to us privately about marriage and success (I’m still keeping what he said a secret!) Or when my vintage Bentley broke down on Park Lane and I had to ACTUALLY run down the main road to synagogue!

Team ES | Did you follow the something old, new, borrowed, blue tradition?

Emily | Yes! My something old was my late great aunty’s nursing pin, my something borrowed a silver and diamond bracelet from my mum. For my something new Jonny gave me Pearl earrings and my something blue was my engagement ring!

Team ES | Tips for brides to be, what one thing would you recommend?

Emily | Be YOU. Yes it is a hassle having the fight with people and everyone has an opinion but stick to your guns and have the day you want or you will always regret it. Also, AVOID long engagements, it just gives everyone more opportunity to voice their opinions; if you can, keep it to a year or under!

Team ES | What are you both up to now, did you go on honeymoon?

Emily MAD summer! Honeymoon on the West Coast of America, Alaska, Seattle, San Francisco, Napa, Tahoe, Yosemite, Sequioa, Monterey and finishing in Maui, Hawaii! We then moved house for my new job and got a 12 week old lab puppy – Alfie!

Team ES | Anything else we should know?

Emily | The Team at Ellie Sanderson were fabulous from start to finish. They were so understanding about our crazy lifestyle and caring at every step of the way. I used to walk past Ellie Sanderson on my way to work every day and dreamt of the day I could go in and try on their beautiful dresses – I cannot believe it actually came true!
